🔹 Session 2 – How can we better connect teachers to Learning Communities (LCs)?

The second session focused on the role of teachers. The group formulated concrete recommendations to involve teachers more actively and sustainably:

  • Give teachers a formal role within the LCs.

  • Schedule dedicated time for teachers to participate actively.

  • Make LC activities eligible for study credits (e.g., through electives with ECTS).

  • Align with current, relevant themes that are valuable for both students and teachers.

  • Ensure visibility of LCs within the study programs.

  • Support teachers in transitioning to this new way of learning.

This provides us with clear guidance for embedding Learning Communities into the curriculum.

🔹 Session 1 – What connects us as stakeholders?

Session 1 focused on exploring the shared values among the companies affiliated with the Learning Communities. From the session, a top 10 emerged that nicely summarizes the common starting point for collaboration (in random order):

  • Competence development (skilledness)

  • Attracting potential talent

  • Developing and retaining in-house talent

  • Flexibility (time as a condition)

  • Providing fun & inspiration to students

  • Enjoyment in mentoring young people

  • Purpose and strategy

  • Innovation

  • Sustainability

  • Collaboration & communication

In addition, we mapped the relevance of various themes. What do partners really consider important?

Very important:

  • Knowledge sharing within Learning Communities

  • Capacity building & training of students/employees

  • Network expansion and building partnerships

  • Contributing to reputation and social responsibility (regarding sustainability)

  • Recognizing contextual differences between companies (hospital ≠ start-up)

  • Purpose & strategic alignment with the company’s scope

Less important:

  • Cost savings or profitability

  • Solving business problems as a direct objective

This input helps us stay focused on where the true added value of Learning Communities lies, according to our partners.

🔹 Session 3 – How can we strengthen the role of knowledge institutions?

Learning Communities

Are you a teacher working in vocational education (MBO), higher professional education (HBO), or academic education (WO) and want to offer students an effective learning environment?

This is possible by taking an active role in guiding students within Learning Communities.

Learning Communities are the driving force behind innovative developments. Professionals from companies, governments, and NGOs collaborate in Learning Communities with researchers, teachers, and students from educational institutions. In Learning Communities, learning, working, and innovating take place in small groups of 5-6 people, united by a common interest. The goal is to develop and share knowledge and find solutions to complex societal challenges.
