EGV got granted the Just Transition Fund!

Exciting News: Even Groene Vrienden got granted the Just Transition Fund for Learning Communities!

We are happy to announce that our Learning Communities educational programme has been granted funding from the Just Transition Fund (JTF): A major milestone in our mission to create sustainable solutions through interdisciplinary education! This European Union initiative - with €623 million available for the Netherlands through 2027 - supports regions transitioning to a climate-neutral economy, functions as a catalyst for the energy transtition and aims to create a resilient labour market.

What This Means for Our Learning Communities

With this support, we're not just expanding our Port of Maassluis Learning Community – we're proving that when students tackle real energy transition challenges like smart grid development, bio-based innovations, and sustainable port infrastructure alongside partners like Gemeente Maassluis and Green Business Club Waterweg, both learning and impact multiply exponentially. Over the past couple of years, this Learning Community has already brought together students from diverse backgrounds to work a variety of assignments:

- Smart grid development for self-sufficient port operations;
- Green energy provider development with the municipality;
- Bio-based workshop boxes and insulation innovations;
- Advanced storage technologies and sustainable infrastructure across 5,400 m² space;
- Integration of Dr. Ten's saltwater battery and SPIE's Integrated Virtual Power Plant.

This funding recognition validates our approach of connecting academic learning with practical impact. Our students don't just study sustainable innovations – they actively contribute to solutions that benefit communities, knowledge institutions, and the environment. Through co-creation sessions, interdisciplinary teamwork, and partnerships with real stakeholders, we're preparing the next generation of life-long learners while addressing today's most pressing challenges.
