Kick-off of Climate Awareness at Radulphus College Curaçao
Two weeks ago, Radulphus College Curaçao launched a new climate awareness initiative with an interactive workshop for VWO 4 and VWO 5 students. In collaboration with TU Delft, this pilot program aims to raise awareness among high school students about climate change and its local and global impacts.
Through a series of interactive sessions, assignments, and lectures, TU Delft and Radulphus College are co-developing an educational program and toolkit for schools across Curaçao. The goal: integrate climate education into the curriculum in a way that is hands-on, collaborative, and solution-oriented.
During the workshop, TU Delft Master’s students Abel Svejda and Joram Nottrot facilitated small-group brainstorming sessions where students explored how climate change is affecting their everyday lives. Topics such as rising temperatures, sea-level rise, and extreme rainfall were discussed. Each group then chose a specific issue that resonated with them and worked together to develop a solution.
The result? A series of creative and thought-provoking posters on questions like:
🌡️ How can we reduce heat in our school buildings?
🐠 How can we protect Curaçao’s coral reefs?
💧 What can we do to prepare for droughts?
Engaging the younger generation in climate discussions is essential. Not only does it deepen their understanding and sense of ownership over these challenges, but it also builds essential skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving, preparing them for their future studies and careers.
We look forward to continuing this journey together and supporting more schools on Curaçao in becoming climate-aware learning environments. 🌱
