Student reflections on a project in Curaçao

In a recent newsletter of De Haagse Hogeschool (HHS), an interview was published with three students from the De Civieltechnisch Expert (CTE) programme who travelled to Curaçao as part of their course, in collaboration with Even Groene Vrienden.
During this assignment, they worked on the design of a self-sufficient and sustainable area for tourists. The main objective was to develop this area without placing additional pressure on the island’s existing civil engineering systems.
The experience was described as valuable both professionally and personally. As one of the students reflected, “This was also an experience through which you grow personally.” From an educational perspective, the international character of the project was considered particularly meaningful. As stated in the newsletter, “That students are already contributing internationally to real civil engineering challenges within CTE feels like the icing on the cake.”
The project illustrates how students can engage with real-world, global challenges while simultaneously fostering both professional and personal development.
