Research into sustainable food production in Curaçao

21-10-2026

In Curaçao, more than 230 sustainability initiatives from over a hundred organizations have been mapped out in the "SDG Action Hub." This digital overview, created by The Recycled Pirate, illustrates which organizations are contributing to each of the United Nations' seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Part of this project includes the graduation research of Fay Wolf, a student at TU Delft. She is spending four months on the island, investigating what residents eat, how they handle food, and the extent to which they purchase locally produced goods. She is also speaking with local farmers and residents who grow their own crops. The goal is to gain insight into how these activities can contribute to a more sustainable local food system.

Ultimately, the findings will be integrated into an interactive map focused on sustainable food production and consumption in Curaçao. The data will also be used for the "Voluntary National Review"—the report through which the Kingdom of the Netherlands informs the United Nations about its progress toward the SDGs.

Additionally, The Recycled Pirate has produced a documentary series titled *The State of the SDGs: Navigating Sustainability on Curaçao*.
