Beethoven Hackathon

24-03-2026

This week, the 'swarming hackathon' for Beethoven Zuid-Holland officially kicked off!
On Monday evening, 50 students from different knowledge institutions came together at the Science Center to take on this exciting challenge. They were divided into 5 teams of 10 and immediately got to work on the hackathon assignment. Within the teams, students were free to decide among themselves who would take on which role, such as leadership, strategy, hardware, navigation and testing. Later that evening, Prem Sundaramoorthy delivered the first workshop of the week on System Engineering, giving the students valuable insights to help shape their strategies for the competition on Saturday.
The second hackathon session took place on Wednesday evening at RoboHouse. The evening started with an inspiring workshop on swarming by Chris Verhoeven, after which the students continued working on the Mirte robots to prepare them for Saturday’s challenge. By the end of the day, several teams were already able to test the small Mirtes in the field, a great first step toward bringing the swarm to life.
The energy, creativity and teamwork we have seen so far promise an exciting competition on Saturday, March 28. We are looking forward to seeing what the teams will achieve!
