Robotic Assembly of Surgical Fixation Sets for Sustainable Manufacturing
Collaborative robotics can enable scalable, safe, sustainable assembly of Van Straten Medical's surgical fixation sets by automating repetitive tasks. This project designs and prototypes a robotic cell that identifies components, positions silicone and stainless-steel strips, and fastens them by riveting or screwing, while preserving flexibility, quality and economic viability.

Robotic Handling of Potentially Contaminated Medical Waste for Circular Recycling
Robotics can safely automate handling of contaminated medical waste. Students design an automated loading system for GreenCycl in which a robot identifies, picks up, and transfers medical blue wrap into the recycling process, addressing material variability, contamination, gripping, operator safety, and integration with existing equipment, so waste becomes recycled polypropylene.
